The Hope

'Hope' is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard—
And sore must be the storm—
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm—

I've heard it in the chillest land—
And on the strangest Sea
Yet, never, in Extremity,
It asked a crumb—of Me.

But now to "Hope" the Others cling—
All praying it is true:
Fruition's psalm will finally sing
The hope I see—in You.

The Human Race

"Put the blood upon your door!"

"How can a simple act of gore
Repel the dark and draw the light?
No lamb chops for my meal tonight!"

"Look to the serpent on the staff!"

"That silly snake? Don't make me laugh!
It's bad enough he gave the sting.
Gazing it won't do a thing!"

"Show your faith and make the plunge!"

"What do you think I am, a sponge?
It makes no sense to so restate
The act I did when I was eight!"

------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------

"Quench my thirst and dim my eyes!"

"I will be slow to hear your cries.
All you had to do was look
And then your name would ink the book.

"How could I know of your desire
To keep from burning in the fire?
I sent my word, you made no sign.
You ate no bread, you drank no wine.

"So now your hope lies in the few
That someday might remember you.
Call their names while they are free.
Perhaps they'll show YOU charity."

------------------------------------------

Another path has now been shown.
The hearts of all mankind are known.
Convincing them that what they see
Will save them all and make them free.

We take this journey as a race
Of human kind to see God's face.
So let us walk it hands combined
And heal the deaf, the maim, and blind.

His love is free, there is no price,
No pound of flesh, no sacrifice.
All He needs is our belief
To heal our race and give relief!

The Change

Nine children, beautiful in form and face,
Came from their houses on the shining heights
Of Melek, the mountain of delights,
To dwell among the people at its base.
Then seemed the world to change. All time and space,
Splendor of cloudless days and starry nights,
And men and manners, and all sounds and sights,
Had a new meaning, a diviner grace.
Proud were these children, but were not too proud
To teach the nations, and little country towns
Science and song, and all the arts that please;
So that while housewives span, and farmers ploughed,
Their comely clan, dressed in homespun gowns,
Learned the sweet songs of the Melekes.

The Reunion

"Welcome to the real world", she said to me
Condescendingly
Take a seat
Take your life
Count the dots in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I'd like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something's better
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you've got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits
Making transfers
They read all the books but they can't find the answers
And all of our parents
They've gotten wiser
I know that they've wished for something better
And in their memories
Many tragedies

They had it written:
"Stay inside the lines."
But there's a problem
On the other side

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you got to rise above

I am invincible
As long as I'm alive

I wanna run through the halls of my high school
I wanna scream at the
Top of my lungs
Now I know there's no such thing as the real world
Just a lie we've got to rise above

I just can't wait til my 10 year reunion
I'm gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you
You will know what all this time was for
